Professor Álvaro Lozano-Robledo’s moving piece Teaching Debut recalls in an intensely human way his memories of his first experience of teaching as a graduate TA.  The seeds of his mathematical journey and personal future were planted in those early days in his second year in graduate school. His first day of teaching would remain forever etched in his memory for reasons far beyond anything that could have been imagined, as it fell on 9/11/2001.
