Scholarship and fellowship support can help you achieve your greatest potential at UConn.
This page includes information about need-based and merit-based undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships administered by the Math Department, as well as select opportunities of particular interest to math students offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), the University, and external organizations.
Departmental Scholarships
Actuarial Science Scholarship Fund
The Actuarial Science Scholarship Fund at UConn awards about 20 scholarships each year to top students who excel academically, pass actuarial exams, gain professional experience, and demonstrate leadership and community service. Recipients are announced in June and recognized by the actuarial community in the fall.
Cigna Award for Outstanding Actuarial Student
The Cigna Award for Outstanding Actuarial Science Major honors a UConn student who has demonstrated exceptional achievement in actuarial science. Sponsored by Cigna, the award is presented each year at the Department of Mathematics’ annual Awards Day ceremony.
Past Cigna Award for Outstanding Actuarial Science Major Recipients
CLAS Scholarships
- Arwood S. and Mary Northby Scholarship — For entering first-year students majoring in mathematics, as well as juniors and seniors majoring in one of the physical sciences. Applicants must demonstrate both financial need and academic achievement.
- Lange Family Endowment Scholarship — Awarded to CLAS undergraduates majoring in mathematics or a physical, life, or environmental science. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.
National Scholarships
- Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship — Provides tuition support for sophomores or juniors majoring in mathematics, science, or engineering.
- Robert Noyce Scholarship Program — Supports students with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mathematics to complete UConn’s one-year Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG).
- SMART Scholarship — Designed for students conducting research for the U.S. Department of Defense.
- NSF Graduate Fellowship — For students planning to attend graduate school. Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents. Typically applied for in the final year of college, but first-year graduate students may also apply.
- NDSEG Graduate Fellowship — For students intending to pursue graduate study. Open to U.S. citizens.
