Honors Program
Take Your Degree Further
The Honors Program is designed for students who want more out of their education—more challenge, more depth, and more opportunities. If you’re excited about math, engineering, or the sciences, the Honors Program gives you the tools, connections, and experiences to set you apart.
Why Join Honors?
All UConn math majors receive a strong foundation for careers and graduate study. The Honors Program builds on that by giving you:
- Courses with added depth and enrichment.
- Recognition through UConn's top awards: Honors Scholar and University Honors Laureate. (Many students pursue both!)
- Additional opportunities to connect with faculty and explore advanced topics.
These experiences not only deepen your learning, but also give you credentials that stand out on applications for graduate school, internships, and future careers.
Courses You'll Love
The Math Department offers dedicated Honors sections in several key classes:
- MATH 1131Q: Calculus I (Fall)
- MATH 1132Q: Calculus II (Fall & Spring)
- MATH 2110Q: Multivariable Calculus (Fall & Spring)
- MATH 2410Q: Differential Equations (select years)
In addition, you can earn Honors credit through upper-division seminars (MATH 3094), completing the Honors Senior Thesis (MATH 3796W), and converting 2000+ level math courses—including graduate-level electives—with faculty approval.
The Senior Thesis
Every Honors Scholar completes a thesis—a chance to dive into a topic that excites you and work closely with a faculty mentor. It’s often the most rewarding part of the Honors experience, giving you a project that’s uniquely your own. Along with the personal satisfaction, your thesis becomes a powerful showcase of your skills and initiative for graduate programs or future employers.
